BLUE LAKE, Humboldt County — October 27, 2026. A proposed bicycle and skate park in Blue Lake is also becoming a place for Indigenous art and community storytelling. The city announced on October 21 that its community partner, the Mountain Bike Tribal Trail Alliance, secured a grant from the Arts in California Parks initiative for the park’s planned cultural features.

What the grant supports

The project, titled Voices of the Land: Tribal Art at Blue Lake Bike & Skate Park, envisions murals, interpretive kiosks, a retaining-wall component and other art experiences rooted in local communities. The city’s announcement also mentions the possibility of a shade structure, explicitly conditioned on donations and available budget.

The city describes coordination with the Wiyot Tribe, Blue Lake Rancheria, Yurok Tribe, Hoopa Valley Tribe and other local tribes. Those connections are central to the project’s purpose, but a grant announcement is not proof that every proposed mural has been installed or that every tribal partner has endorsed every future design.

What we still do not know

The October 21 notice did not specify the size of the particular award or a final, complete construction timetable. Residents should distinguish this art funding from separate money for asphalt paving and basic park infrastructure. It would be incorrect to combine announced donations and grants into a single verified expenditure total without project accounting records.

Families and interested artists can submit suggestions through the city’s Bike & Skate Park information page; upcoming public meetings are also listed there.
